This week as we get back into the rhythm of the semester, we will be highlighting the Busse Library staff, focusing on a different staff member each day.

Today, we'd like you to meet Greg Ennis, the Academic Technology Specialist.

1. What is your role in the library?

I am the Academic Technology Specialist and lead Brightspace Administrator for the University’s learning management system.

2. What does your role typically include?

A majority of my time is spent helping faculty and students with Brightspace courses. This could range from very simple things like navigating the platform to much more complex projects that require customization or research. On a day to day basis, our Brightspace team provides support for requests received by phone, email or walk-ins which is also balanced with researching and implementing new tools that enhance our learning delivery.

In other ways, I serve our community through the facilitation of webinars, live workshops, tutorials and one-on-one instruction. Our library staff also serves as first responders to classroom technology issues, while providing another set of eyes in trouble-shooting issues.

3. What do you like to do when you aren’t at work?

I definitely am not at a loss in finding something to do! I enjoy horticulture, playing and teaching guitar, building and repairing stringed instruments, photography/filmmaking/multimedia, reading and cooking.

4. What have you been reading/listening/watching recently?

Currently, I have been reading an academic study “Pat Metheny: The ECM Years, 1975-1984” while also collecting the vinyl albums that make up this amazing collection. Only need to find his first album, Bright Size Life!

I am listening to a newly discovered (for me) American composer and pianist, Conrad Tao, whom some have described as “a leader of the new generation of classical music.” I particularly enjoy the piece, Eventide.

In regards to watching, I am mostly waiting…waiting for the next series of Ted Lasso and Stranger Things. In the meantime, I enjoy catching a good football (Soccer) match and are impressed with the improvements of the US men’s team.
